Otitis is one of the most common reasons why dogs are presented to the veterinarian, which makes having a solid understanding of which otic medications to use an essential part of practice. The benefits of topical otic products in addition to their possible adverse effects are discussed. The major otic drug categories are reviewed including disinfectant cleaners, ceruminolytics, antibiotics, antifungals, and anti-inflammatories.
